Abstract
This project aims to interconnect the complementary expertise of researchers based in Vienna and Prague. The resulting interdisciplinary and international team will collaborate to advance the theoretical understanding of magnetoelastic materials with a particular focus on 1. the derivation and analysis of appropriate dimensionally reduced models, e.g., to deal with practically relevant geometries (such as magnetoelastic films, stripes, and wires), 2. the design, rigorous convergence analysis, and implementation of effective approximation methods to perform reliable numerical simulations. The project goals are split into two main work packages (WPs), corresponding to • WP1: Magnetoelasticity at small strains, • WP2: Magnetoelasticity at large strains. In the work packages, we will investigate analytical questions related to the existence of solutions and their quality (e.g., strong, weak), but we will also design new numerical algorithms and approaches for solutions to such problems that will be applicable in practical problems. We will also perform numerical computations. Both teams consist of experienced researchers as well as of postdocs and doctoral students. One of the important aims of the project is to embed the young researcher into the international scientific network. Finally, the proposed project will initiate a long-term collaboration of both teams, resulting in another joint project. Here we have in mind, e.g. the Weave initiative or GAČR-FWF international activity.
