Antonín Otáhal was born in 1955 in Ostrava. In 1979, he graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University in Prague and earned the title RNDr. in the field of probability and statistics. Since 1979, he was a research student at the Institute of Information Theory and Automation of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, and in 1984 he was appointed a candidate of physical and mathematical sciences (CSc.) in the field of Theoretical Cybernetics. He worked full-time at the ÚTIA until 1993 when he founded his company and engaged in entrepreneurial activities (in the field of language education and translation – he translated approximately 20 works of fiction from English to Czech).
