Welcome to UTIA

The Institute of Information Theory and Automation (UTIA) is a public non-university research institution which administratively falls under the Czech Academy of Sciences. UTIA conducts fundamental and applied research in computer science, signal and image processing, pattern recognition, system science, and control theory. In addition to its research activities, UTIA is engaged in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education. It also publishes the journal Kybernetika and acts as a certified forensic expert institution. UTIA consists of eight scientific departments, computer centre, library, facility maintenance department and business administration department. UTIA is managed by the Director and the Board.

Václav Lín has successfully defended his PhD thesis at the Faculty of Management of the University of Economics in Prague. The defence took place in Jindrichuv Hradec on August, 30, 2016. The topic of his thesis was "On sequencing problems in the management of troubleshooting operations".
We regret to announce that Martin Janžura passed away on August 2, 2016, aged 61. His research was centered around the statistics of Gibbs random fields. For many years, he served the Institute as a deputy director. Since 2011 he has been Editor-in-Chief of the journal Kybernetika. As an associated professor, he lectured at the Charles University and the Czech Technical University on various topics in statistics and information theory. He will be missed by his colleagues and students. In him, our institute has lost an original and notable character.
Ing. Raissa Likhonina from the Department of Signal Processing (ZS) received the Dean's prize of the Faculty of Transportation Sciences in the Students category of the 13th annual nationwide competition Czech traffic infrastructure / technology / innovation of the year 2015 for her diploma thesis Numerical simulation of impact with barries.

The fourth conference on Information Geometry and its Applications will be held on June 13-17, 2016, at Liblice Castle in Czech Republic. It is organized by the Institute of Information Theory and Automation of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Prestigious Werner von Siemens Awards were delivered to young scientists, students and teachers on February 4th, 2016 in Betlem Chapel. Among them, the Best Teacher Award was presented to prof. Michael Šebek, who is the Head of the Department of Control Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague and Research Fellow at the Department of Control Theory of the Institute of Information Theory and Automation.
